Cary Elwes has revealed that his life changed after starring in the 1987 cult classic The Princess Bride.
talking to People magazine, the 62-year-old actor described the fantasy-adventure comedy as “the gift that keeps on giving.”
The England native, who played Westley in The princess brideHe also credited his director, Rob Reiner, for solidifying his comedic chops.
When Cary asked him if he felt like he had to prove he could do comedy early in his acting career, the Tornado The star responded, “Well, Rob Reiner really helped me with that.”
“Once I got that role, that really opened the door for me, and that’s how I got the role of Robin Hood with Mel Brooks,” the star shared, referring to his lead role in the 1993 film. Robin Hood: men in tights.
“So actually Rob basically said, ‘I think you can do comedy and I can believe you’re serious too.’ So yeah,” the star added.
When discussing his relationship with the film, Cary said that it remains an integral part of his career to this day.
“I’m sold out. I tour the movie and it’s sold out everywhere I go. It’s crazy,” he told the publication. “It’s really beautiful.”
