Former judges acquitted of murder positions

Islamabad:

In an interesting development, the Supreme Court acquitted two people on Friday, one of them former district judge and sessions, of the position of killing the son of another jurist, Khalid Hussain Shahani, who now serves as a judge in the Superior Court of Sindh (SHC).

An anti -terrorism court (ATC) had sentenced the former district judge and Sikandar Lashari sessions and coacked Irfan Khan in August 2018 for killing Aqib Shahani, 19, in Hyderabad in February 2014 for allegedly having an adventure with Lashari’s daughter.

In April 2020, the SHC had confirmed the death penalty. An appeal bank led by Judge Muhammad Ali Mazhar said that the guilt of both defendants had been tested.

He had declared that the evidence that includes the clear admission of the fault of the former district judge through a secret video statement in the office of a police officer and the revelation of material facts and incontroverted through the registration of call data linked the former judge with murderers.

The convicts then transferred the SC that Friday acquitted them. In his short order written by Judge Athar Minallah, the SC cited a defective investigation and weak prosecution as a reason to let the accused out of the hook. A detailed order in the case will be issued later.
