RS68.7B Karachi-Lahore Motorway Project referred to ECNEC

The Federal Planning Minister, Ahsan IQBAL, presided on Thursday a meeting of the Central Development Work Party (CDWP) that approved three development projects and recommended four to ECNEC for greater consideration and approval.

The Forum approved a reviewed project, namely “Action to strengthen performance for the Inclusive and Receptive Education Program (TA component)” at a cost of RS1383.48 million.

The CDWP sent a project, namely, “establishment of the Nawaz Sharif Cancer Treatment and Research Institute, Lahore” worth RS74,920,140 million to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for its greater consideration. The project is proposed to be financed through the provincial ADP.

A reviewed project related to the energy sector, namely the “Harpo Hydroelectric Project (34.5MW)” referred to the ECNEC with the revised cost of RS34,340,185 million.

Two projects related to transport and communications, namely, the “construction of the 8-lanes superior bridge at the crossroads of the Imamia Shahdara Colonia (N-5)” with the revised cost of RS4,673,137 million were approved at the meeting.

Another project reviewed at the meeting, namely land acquisition, the compensation of affected properties and the relocation of public services for the construction of 959 kilometers in the length of the Karachi-Lahore highway (KLM) (excluding 136 km of M-9 and 57 km of M-4 completed “worth RS68,739.930 million were referred to ECNEC for its additional consideration.

A project, namely, “Project of the Baluchistan Water Resources Development Sector (BWRDSP) for Zhob and Mula River Basin (reviewed)” was sent to ECNEC with the revised cost of RS49,901,411 million.

The Forum also agreed to conceptual authorization to explore international financing for five proposals for conceptual authorization, including three financing proposals related to Baluchistan agriculture.
