LAHORE:
Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, on Friday, a strong concern for what he called tactics of the legal team of PTIR Imran Khan in a case of defamation of RS10 billion.
The prime minister, who joined the procedures through the video link before a judge of the District Court, said that “the waste of time cannot be tolerated at any cost.”
The case derives from Imran Khan’s accusations that Shehbaz had offered him a bribe to withdraw the case of Panama’s papers.
At first, Shehbaz’s lawyer said that the lawyers of the PTI founder had not appeared in time, despite the repeated addresses.
He told the court that the prime minister had traveled from Doha specifically for the hearing, while the opposite lawyer arrived 45 minutes late.
Addressing the court, the prime minister said: “Judge Sahib, the Constitution allows him to proceed in accordance with the law. I try this court with responsibility, but Imran Khan councils have already sought five postponements.”
Later, Imran Khan’s lawyer, Muhammad Hussain Chottia, said no deliberate delay was caused, arguing that he had sought only a postponement. In addition, he pointed out that the legal procedure with respect to the first appearances before the superior courts was clear.
