Robert Irwin, son of the beloved crocodile hunter Steve Irwin, spoke about his connection with his late father.

In an interview with People magazine, Robert, who was only 2 years old when Steve died tragically in the accident in 2006, revealed that he now feels closer to his father.

Robert, 21, said: “The passage of time is so wild, how almost two decades since my dad passed.”

“It is still part of each day,” he added.

Robert continued to observe: “He is part of each conversation. It is part of my life. And I feel that I have a small part of him in some way, in every conversation I have about him, or any new story that listens to him, or in any new photo that I have not seen before.”

“As I begin to reach the same type of milestones he did when he was a young guy as he grew up, yes, yes, I feel closer to him somehow,” he said.

Adding: “I really do it. My dad is like a figure of superheroes. It is thus omnipresent, only a superhero for me. And I am very grateful for that, because although I did not have much time with my father, I have a human being that exemplifies everything I want to be in life.”

Robert Irwin also said that like his father, he would prefer to “play with crocodiles all day” than a desktop work.

He said: “I think losing someone as important as he at an early age solidified the idea that life is fragile.”

“We do not know what he holds tomorrow, so he must take calculated risks, he must have fun, enjoy what he is doing and give everything 100 percent,” Robert added.

“He is always guiding me in some way,” he said.
