Karachi:
A 29 -year -old man died in a private hospital in Karachi due to Naegleria Fowleri, a rare but mortal amoeba that consumes brain. This marks the fifth death related to Naegleria in Sindh so far this year.
According to the Sindh Department of Health, the deceased was a resident of the Central District and began to show symptoms on September 7. He was admitted to the hospital on September 11, but died the same day.
The laboratory tests held on September 12 confirmed the presence of Naegleria Fowleri. Health officials said that the victim had not participated in any recreational aquatic activity, such as swimming, and that he had only used tap water to drink and bathe.
Medical experts have reiterated concerns about the growing threat of Naegleria in Sindh and have urged the public to use boiled or chlorinated water properly. They also emphasized the importance of chlorination in all water storage facilities to avoid more infections.
