Two new cases of polio confirmed in KP

Peshawar:

Two new cases of polyomyelitis have been confirmed in the districts of Lakki Marwat and Waziristan del Norte in southern Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP), confirmed on Monday the National Center for Emergency Operations (NEOC). The last cases carry the total number of polio infections in Pakistan this year to 26.

The NEOC said that high quality vaccination campaigns were being carried out in southern KP to contain the virus. “Polio campaigns help protect children from this incurable disease,” he said, adding that fresh units had begun in southern KP, Bajaur and Upper Dir.

The Neoc said that more than 1,685 million children under five years of age would be attacked in this week’s campaign. “Parents are urged to make sure their children receive polio drops in each campaign,” he said.
