The Milwaukee brewers became the first team in MLB this season to ensure a post-season after a 9-8 victory over the Cardinals of St. Louis.

Before celebrating in the locker room, the transmission legend of the Bob Uecker brewers, winner of the Ford C. Frick Award and member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, was the focus of the moment.

Manager Pat Murphy told his “Brew Crew” that he had received a “letter from Ueck today.” Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that the letter was delivered to Murphy by the owner Mark Attanasio, although he was described as a “tribute to Uecker”, which is not clear if the station really wrote it.

The message had an additional meaning for a group that last celebrated a postseason post with Uedker at the Club House. Uecker died in January at age 90.

“Hello, boys. I never doubted that you would get this invitation,” Murphy of the newspaper read in a video published by the brewers in X. “You did it believing. I really miss them, and I would like to be there. The Almighty God chose me to be in his team here, although I am the third receiver.

“He told the great type of you. They play hard every night. You are not afraid to play for each other. He is obviously very interested in the group with this unusual goodness … the fact that they have the best record in baseball and the best road record in baseball called their attention. I know they really do not need me, but I have to tell you, I will be on my head every night.

After reading, Murphy lifted a glass to Uecker.

“We toast with him and our team and what we have achieved so far,” he said.

The brewers have not been a surprise this season, but a power in the National League, since the postseason is approaching with only a couple of remaining weeks in the regular season. They have the best MLB record in 91-58, and although they have reached the playoffs in seven of the last eight seasons, they are still pursuing their first place in the World Series since 1982.

Uecker was transmitting for the brewers years before that world series race, starting his career in 1971 and maintaining his headphones until 2024. He also gained worldwide recognition for his roles in the “Major Leagues” films and in the comedy “Mr. Belvedere”.

Uecker fought against lung cancer and died on January 16. During this season, brewers have used a patch on their shirts to honor their contributions to the organization.

With the games that are still in the regular season, Milwaukee hopes to block the advantage of the local field during the playoffs by maintaining the best record of the League in October.
