It is a great week for the National Broadband Network of Australia, since NBN speed updates that have mocked and spoken during the last 12 months are now officially live.
As we expected, not all retailer suppliers (RSP) have updated their websites still (and some have even said that although they will honor NBN CO updates, the changes will not be implemented until October), but according to the suppliers that have Pushed through updates, we can already see a fairly clear image of what the new NBN 500 plans, in particular, can offer the Australians.
A word: value.
Great speed, low price
When NBN CO announced for the first time the updates of this month’s plan, he said they would arrive at no additional cost for RSP. Of course, we expected that that meant that customers were not asked to pay anything extra and, according to what we have seen so far for the new NBN 500 level, that is largely the case. The result is a set of NBN plans that now offer up to 500 Mbps of discharge speeds for prices that, only a couple of weeks ago, would only give it 100 Mbps. Indeed, it is a free 5x increase for free.
In the table below, we have chosen a handful of suppliers who now offer NBN 500 plans, to give a good indication about the type of price you can expect to pay. We have chosen cheap options such as Spintel E Kogan Internet, along with more expensive alternatives of energy origin. The origin is currently the most expensive supplier of those we monitor, but we imagine that it will change once Telstra activates its updates.
In the last 18 months, we had already noticed that the best NBN 100 plans had begun to offer a much greater value than their slower NBN 50 counterparts, with the average monthly cost of the fastest option that generally cost users less than au $ 10 each month. Now that the 100 Mbps plans have been transformed into plans that offer the speed for the same price, the 50 Mbps plans seem even worse worth.
To paint a clearer image, we will use Spintel as an example. The Telco still offers a NBN 100 plan (probably for customers in older NBN connection technologies that still cannot take advantage of the plans stimulated by speed) together with a new 500 NBN plan that has the lowest introductory cost of any supplier at this time in just AU $ 64p/m.
The slower 100 Mbps Spintel plan? That begins in au $ 68p/m before solving the same continuous rate as its new 500mbps counterpart of AU $ 86.95p/m. This not only means that he will pay less in the first year in the fastest plan, but ultimately, he would pay exactly the same amount each year.
What you need to update
Last week, we detail everything I needed to obtain these new High Speed NBN plans. The main criterion is to have the correct type of connection. This is fiber for facilities (FTTP) or coaxial hybrid fiber (HFC). If you have any of these, you can register to obtain a new NBN 500 plan immediately.
If you do not have any of these connections, then it is very likely that it will be eligible for the free Fiber update of NBN CO, to install the equipment required in its facilities. If you are in an eligible area and want a faster broadband, we really don’t see any reason why you don’t take advantage.
