Dyson has just announced an updated version of his unalable V8 V8. The V8 is one of the oldest models in the alignment of the brand, but it remains its best-seller, despite the first launch in 2016. The new version is called V8 Cyclone, and presents some great updates on the original V8, but it also looks very similar.
I chatted with Steph Parker, a Dyson engineer who was part of the team that worked in the new release, on how they decided what to keep and what to lose.
The most notable for me, and what the V8 marks as different from the rest of the Dyson wireless vacuum line, is the fact that the cyclones, the container and the engine are arranged at the right angle to the wand. From the V11 onwards, all are stacked in a straight line, an introduced update to improve the efficiency of suction.
I asked Steph why the online configuration was not introduced into cyclone V8. “That is a very good question. I think if you change the format, you change a lot of product,” he said. “If you think where the filter is put on the product and how its air flow goes through the product …”
“We are still trying to be so aspiring to the vacuum with a V8, but without that type of improvements in the design, whether format or the engine.”
She explained that without making such important changes, it limits the amount of energy you can obtain from the product. “We are not achieving the same amount of aerial watts with our V8 anywhere equivalent to Gen5detect or a Dyson V16 piston,” he continued. “I think that is the commitment, basically.”
The Dyson V16 piston is the new flagship, and the Gen5Dect is the previous flagship. Both are much more advanced and much more important than cyclone V8.
Steph continued explaining that the V8 is designed to fill a specific niche within the alignment. While it is not Dyson’s best emptiness by specifications, that does not mean that it will not be the perfect choice for some people.
“The V8 is a great model. It satisfies many customers, but it is not our most powerful machine. It is not our most hygienic. The Dyson V16 piston is definitely our higher level product, but [the V8 Cyclone is] It is still a great performance in the range of products in the industry. “It is also worth noting that cyclone V8 has more power than the original V8, specifically, 30% more suction.
Other features
That does not mean that there has been no notable improvements in other areas. One of the most important updates that will be introduced with cyclone V8 is to the battery. The old V8 had a fixed battery that provided up to 40 minutes of cleaning with a single load. That is not competitive in today’s market.
The new version has up to an hour of loading per load, which is in line with what would expect the rest of the best wireless vacuum clezers in the market these days, including those similar to Cyclone V8.
The fact that the battery is now removable and adjustable means that you could buy a backup and hit it hot to extend the execution times. It also means that if the battery wears out, it can replace it.
Another important change is that cyclone V8 works through a button instead of a trigger. That is good news if you are going to aspire for longer periods and want to avoid a sore finger, although it means that you will have to suddenly have a hand to turn it on and turn it off.
I have had some practical time with Cyclone V8, and I will have a live review as soon as I can get a review model to try correctly. Until now, however, I think it is an intelligent Dyson movement. The brand has been occupied by launching increasingly expensive flagship models, but I think that the V8 much more affordable and updated is the void that most people really wanted.
