Sindh CM condemns violence during protests, orders action against perpetrators

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah strongly condemned the acts of violence during the recent sit-ins in the city, where several vehicles and motorcycles were set on fire.

In a statement released through an official spokesperson, the Chief Minister expressed grave concern over the incidents and promised to hold those responsible accountable.

“Damaging to public and private property will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” Shah said.

“Everyone has the right to protest, but causing damage to public property in this way is an act of provocation. Legal action will be taken against those who set vehicles on fire.”

The Chief Minister also highlighted that the provincial government had designated specific platforms for holding protests to ensure public safety. “These acts of vandalism are unacceptable and those who commit them will face strict consequences,” he added.

He directed the Additional Inspector General (AIG) of Police to immediately restore order in the city and submit a comprehensive report on the situation. “End the chaos in the city and report on the progress,” Shah instructed.

Violence broke out during a protest organized by the Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) at Numaish Chowrangi. Protesters reportedly clashed with police, threw stones, set six motorcycles and a police checkpoint on fire, and injured several officers.

The injured police officers were rushed to the Civil Hospital for treatment. In response, law enforcement officers fired tear gas and baton-charged protesters gathered on MA Jinnah Road.

Several people were detained as authorities worked to disperse the crowd and investigate the incidents.

The Sindh government reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and protecting public property, urging calm and cooperation as efforts continue to bring the situation under control.

Tensions remain high in the area and law enforcement is on alert to prevent further unrest.
