PTI senators give up all committees

The Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) has formally resigned from all the permanent committees of the Senate, intensifying its political disconnection of the parliamentary process in protest against what it describes as an “engineering system.”

PTI’s parliamentary leader in the Senate, lawyer Ali Zafar, presented on Tuesday the resignations of the party senators to the Senate Secretariat.

Speaking outside the house of Parliament, he declared that the measure was part of a unanimous decision of the party. “We have decided to retire from all the Senate committees. Today, I have presented the resignations of our senators according to our collective decision,” he said.

The decision follows a previous directive of the founder of PTI, Imran Khan, who, according to the reports, instructed the legislators supported by the legislators who annul the commission positions in both Chambers of Parliament. Last week, PTI senators began to resign individually from their committee assignments.

Senator Mirza Muhammad Afridi resigned from five prominent committees: trade, industries and production, education, energy and interprovincial coordination. Senator Azam Swati made his example and resigned from the Committees of Cabinets, Economic Affairs, Health, Law and Justice, and Rules and Procedures.

The party had already begun to renounce the committees of the National Assembly last month, citing similar concerns.
