Islamabad:
A formal reference has been presented to the Islamabad Bar Association that seeks the cancellation of the Imaan Mazari defender’s license to practice the law. Development is the result of a growing legal and professional dispute that involves the president of the Superior Court of Islamabad (IHC), Sarfaraz Dogar.
According to Express News on Tuesday, the reference was presented by defender Adnan Iqbal, who claimed that IMAAN is involved in “considered against the State” activities. The petitioner asked the Board of Lawyers to revoke his license permanently and initiate a formal investigation.
This development occurs following the growing tensions between IMAAN and the president of the Supreme Court Dogar. Last week, a verbal exchange was held during an audience on a petition that seeks the elimination of the name of the Balochjehti, Mahrang Baloch committee, from the output control list (ECL), a case in which IMAAN appeared as a lawyer.
During the hearing, the president of the Supreme Court of IHC admonished Imaan, stating: “You must keep your mouth closed and stay within the limits of respect,” according to reports, in response to Imaan’s comments, he said, they were out of legal reach. In addition, he referred to her as having called him “dictator” and refused to issue any directive in the matter.
