Imran’s spirit uninterrupted, says wife

LAHORE:

Survival in a cell destined for the prisoners of the death corridor, where former Prime Minister Imran Khan is even denied a book, television or properly cooked food, his resolution has only been strengthened, according to a letter from his wife. The letter was transmitted through a source of party that had recently interacted with her in the Adial prison.

Bushra Begum, in his written message through notes memorized by the source of the party, said Imran Khan was confined to a room designated for those who expected the execution. The suffocating space contained an individual bed and a small bathroom in the corner, without leaving space to move and little air to breathe. For 18 hours a day, he said, he was locked inside that room, completely alone.

“Imagine a man who once directed a nation now confined to such a narrow space that eliminates the feeling of being,” he said.

According to her, the guards have received instructions not to speak with him. “Even if you try to make visual contact, the looks go down as if they are ordered not to interact with it. It is a deliberate isolation aimed at reducing the entire human connection,” he said.

Bushra also claimed that food had become a torment tool. The unreacted chefs had the task of preparing their meals, only to be replaced once they began to understand their needs. When he turned to television for a brief distraction, he was removed. The books were also denied. What was left, he said, was “total isolation, total silence.”

He added that every Tuesday, Imran Khan waits with the hope of a meeting with her. “It prepares, believing that we will talk, even for a few minutes. However, week after week, at the last moment, the meeting is canceled. That fragile hope increases, only to be crushed again and again.”

The same employer, he said, applies to his legal cases. The hearings are scheduled in advance but postponed or canceled for no reason. Sometimes, their defense team is denied access, while others without any direct role in cases are allowed instead.

“This is not simply imprisonment. It is the mental torture of the highest order. It is a systematic attempt to break the spirit of a man,” he said.

But, he wrote, cruelty cannot defeat faith. “As the difficulties increase, Allah’s blessings also. With each act of injustice, Imran Khan’s resolution is strengthened. With every moment of suffering, love and support of people they deepen. His spirit is even raised even when they try to limit their body.”

Bushra described the situation as a dark chapter in the history of the nation, “one that proves not only my husband but all.” She wrote that Imran Khan supports this terrible experience with patience and unwavering faith.
