- The support of the Windows 10 team edition ends on October 14, 2025
- Surface Hub V1 hardware cannot be updated and can become obsolete for organizations
- Microsoft recommends updating hardware or migration to Windows 11 compatible platforms
Thousands of companies could face the interruption of the meeting room soon, since the next deadline of Life Windows 10 seems to affect Microsoft Team Rooms devices.
As of October 14, Surface Hub V1 devices, such as other Windows 10 systems, will no longer receive updates or Microsoft support, since the company extracts support for Windows 10 Team Edition.
Unlike the standard Windows 10 editions, the Windows 10 equipment does not have an extended support option, and although the Surface Hub 2s units can be updated to Windows 11 or equipped with a surface computing cartridge Hub 3, the original hub does not have that luxury.
Buy a new surface center or otherwise
“Surface Hub V1 devices will no longer be compatible. It is recommended to update to a new surface hub device,” Microsoft said in an update.
This council places many meeting spaces in an awkward position, and will see that some devices become expensive but without support, as the impact extends beyond the surface hardware.
The Microsoft Teams Rooms application will no longer work on Windows 10 devices after October 14, or the Roms Pro Equipment Administration Portal.
As Microsoft says: “The Microsoft Teams Rooms application based on classic equipment will no longer be accessible.”
Andrew Francis, senior manager of Application Engineering in Shure, said The registration that many companies can underestimate the problem.
“While the initial approach is often found on personal devices such as laptops and desks, there are many other final points that need consideration. A key example is Microsoft Teams rooms on a Windows 10 device,” he said.
Francis said there are about one million rooms of active equipment worldwide, both in Windows and Android, but many Windows -based units cannot move to Windows 11 due to hardware restrictions.
There is an additional layer of complexity for those companies whose meeting room technology covers multiple departments or subcontracted suppliers.
The imminent deadline means that organizations must now choose between updates, migrations or replacements.
For surface users HUB 2S, Microsoft says that users have three options: install a surface computing cartridge Hub 3, perform a software migration before October 14 or unlock devices for a USB manual installation of Windows 11 USB.
Surface Hub V1 customers only have the only option, buying a new model. Otherwise, I could see some meetings rooms with expensive equipment that is no longer suitable for use.
