Sabres’s star, Rasmus Dahlin, reveals the promised heart transplant during France’s trip

Buffalo Sabres The star Rasmus Dahlin revealed in an open letter to hockey fans that his fiancee, Carolina Matovac, received a heart transplant after experiencing “heart failure” while the couple was on vacation in France earlier this summer.

Sabres captain detailed the traumatic experience in a letter shared by the team on Friday. According to Dahlin, Matovac had felt ill for several days, which led her to experiment “Greater heart failure.”

“Fortunately, RCP received on multiple occasions, and up to a couple of hours at the same time to keep her alive, which finally saved her life. Without her receiving the CPR that saves lives, the result would have been unimaginable. It is difficult to even think about the worst case,” he wrote.

Matovac remained on a vital support for weeks before receiving the transplant in France.

“Without the incredible commitment, experience, care and sensitivity of all the people who treated Carolina, we would not be in the position in which we are today, with Carolina recovering well and on the way to a complete recovery.”

Dahlin thanked Matovac’s medical team, the NHL and NHLPA and the Pegula family for their support. He said that by sharing this experience that alters life, he hopes to remember others to “appreciate our experiences, the people closest to us and the importance of fully living every day.”

“While Carolina is still working through her rehabilitation to be with me in Buffalo again, she has demonstrated an incredible determination, spirit, positivity and resistance from which I am amazed. This has undoubtedly been the most challenging chapter of our lives, however, it is something we have learned so much. Fortunados we are.”

Dahlin, 25, is entering its eighth NHL season after being selected for the first time in Buffal 2026 Winter Olympic Games In Italy.
