The Oscar winner, Troy Kotsur, has discussed his last role in the new Netflix series Black rabbit
The actor, who made history in 2022 as the first deaf artist to win an Academy Award for Coda, now plays the chief of the Mafia Joe Mancuso.
In an interview with People’s magazineKotsur shared that he expects his last role to open doors for deaf actors in Hollywood.
He said: “I am sure that the people of the audience have never seen a gangster who is deaf. It was very fun and exciting for me to create this character.”
“It was very fun for me to develop this character, a new shot and a new perspective. It will open new roles in the future, I hope. We are not only actors who use sign language, we are characters and we can play all the different types of characters,” he added.
Kotsur added on his role: “Every scene, my goal was for the audience to feel the emotion.”
“What I was trying to do was keep it simple. Less is more. I’m glad I approached things in that way and remain in control in these extremely emotional scenes. Because Joe Mancuso is the boss, he didn’t want to be too annoying or exaggerated. He had to keep under control and be aware of his power at all times,” Kotsur said.
In particular, Troy Kotsur’s Black rabbit It will be released in Netflix.
