- Aoostar makes fun of EG01 EGPU DET with Thunderbolt 5 and Oculink connectivity
- Mini PC Mount allows a stacked desktop style configuration for users with limited space
- Global liberation is expected, although prices details have not yet been revealed
The Chinese Hardware Startup Aoostar has caused a new external GPU spring with a fairly unusual design and some advanced connectivity options.
The EG01 Aoostar follows other open-frame EGPU docks, such as the peladn link S-3, which uses Thunderbolt 5, and the Minister Deg1, which uses Oculink.
The EG01, which appears on the company’s global website, is better, however, offering Thunderbolt 5 and Oculink, which makes it one of the first docks into a design ready for the consumer to do so, while including a support for a mini PC.
Global availability
It is this frame above the food source slot that makes the EG01 so unusual.
The arrangement allows the mini PC to be stacked vertically on the GPU, creating a compact desktop style configuration instead of separate devices, as can be seen in the promotional image above.
For anyone who cuts the desktop space, construction instead of the output could be very welcome.
Aoostar launched its AG01 EGPU dock with an Oculink port and an 800W power supply incorporated last year. The EG01 takes a different route and does not come with an integrated PSU.
On the other hand, the dock is based on an ATX or SFX unit supplied by the user, which provides energy to both the GPU and the dock electronics.
The Port Single Thunderbolt 5 of the EG01 admits a USB power delivery of 150 W, which allows the spring to load systems connected with more power than many competitors.
EG01 is not the only product that offers Thunderbolt 5 and Oculink connectivity.
We write about the FNGT5 pro of the Chinese manufacturer FEVM at the beginning of the year.
This product offers two Thunderbolt 5 and Oculink ports, but is based on a incorporated portable degree GPU (RTX 4060, 4080 and 4090) and does not allow updates.
It was also only available in China, while, given its presence on the company’s international site, a global launch for EG01 seems to be sure.
Aoostar has not yet announced prices for EG01, but now that it is on the website, more details should arrive soon.
