Civil society representatives urged the government of Sindh to strictly enforce the law of restriction of child marriage, warning that minor marriages follow rampants due to poor implementation. In a dialogue in Mirpurkhas, organized by the Welfare Association of Hari, the activists and the officials expressed alarm about the persistence of the practice. The event also marked the launch of a civil society forum at the district level focused on protecting the rights of the child and preventing early marriages. The Executive of the Welfare Association of Hari, Akram Khaskheli, cited Sindh police data that show that from 2018 to 2024, 272 FIRS were registered under the law, but only 30 sentences were secured in Hyderabad and none in Karachi or Sukkur. He stressed that the figures do not inform the real scale of the problem. The deputy director of the Social Welfare Department said the Forum could close gaps between communities and state agencies.
