Karachi:
The president of the Popular Party of Pakistan, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, delivered the keys to the beneficiaries of the “pink Scooty scheme”, a government initiative in Sindh that provides free electric scooters to women.
The scheme, launched by the Transport of Transportation, aims to improve the mobility of women and create greater access to transport and employment opportunities throughout the province.
Speaking at the event, Bilawal emphasized that the inclusion of women is essential for the development of any nation, economy or society. He reiterated PPP’s commitment to women’s empowerment and highlighted the steps taken by the government to improve access to public transport for women throughout the province.
“It is proud that Sindh has already introduced electric buses by public transport and then has launched the dedicated pink bus service for women,” he said.
“Today, we are taking another great step by distributing electric scooters at no cost for women, which will not only relieve their daily trip, but will also provide greater access to employment opportunities,” he added.
Bilawal also announced the next launch of a new initiative, Pink Taxis, which will provide safe travel and work opportunities for women throughout Sindh. Citing the founder of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Bilawal said: “No nation can reach the heyday of glory unless your women are next to you.”
He pointed out that although some countries impose restrictions on women, the government of Sindh is actively working to expand their opportunities. “We want to send a strong message to Pakistan and the world: the Pakistan peoples party meets the women of this country.”
He also appreciated the role of KFC Pakistan for the association in the scheme by supporting bicycle training and license for women’s riders, asking other stakeholders of the private sector to participate in public-private partnership models for mutual benefits.
Bilawal pointed out the transformative results achieved through PPP in Sindh, particularly in the economic elevation of Tharparkar, the construction of new roads and bridges, and the improvement in the education and medical care sectors.
Speaking about agricultural support, Bilawal reiterated PPP’s commitment to farmers affected by floods, announcing that the Government will offer financial help through the Benazir Hari card. Farmers who have up to 25 acres of land will receive support to buy fertilizers under this scheme.
