- It is rumored that Intel is walking for the price of some oldest laptop CPU
- Raptor Lake chips are rising by 10%, they tell us
- This could be even more pressure on laptop manufacturers, given the recent increases in RAM prices, all that makes notebooks more expensive
The prices of the laptop can increase in the near future, and this time the problem can be related to Intel CPUs, according to new rumors.
As marked by Jukan in X, Digitimes reports that, according to sources from the Asia supply chain, Intel plans to increase the price of its Raptor Lake processors for laptops in more than 10% in the fourth quarter of 2025. That may not sound in the land of the earth, but it would be clarified in misery for notebook manufacturers that already face greater costs for other components.
Apparently, one of the main reasons for this Raptor Lake walk is the “mediocre performance of the PC of AI”, but with all this we must take into account that Digitimes is not always the most reliable source (although the site does the right things sometimes), and also translation problems around the article.
What is happening, they tell us, is that the new PC AI, co -pilot+ laptops, are not sold as well as they are expected, so the demand for lunar lake (Intel CPU with robust NPus for these devices) has not been as strong as expected.
As a result, there has been more demand for older mobile chips Lake Lake, although they are now three -year processors, so Intel is struggling to meet those needs of notebook manufacturers. Because of that, the company will ask for more for these chips, as the report points out: “Raptor Lake has been scarce since the middle of the year, and the supply is still tight.”
Digitimes reporter contacted Intel about this price increase talk, but Team Blue said he would not comment at this time.
The thin supply of the Lake Raptor chips remains a “great concern” for notebook manufacturers, and one of the five main suppliers is “experiencing a significant supply shortage”, the report claims additional, without naming that manufacturer.
ANALYSIS: Skill Friday
Ok, before going overboard with pessimism, we must take this unique report with a dose of condiment properly strong. In addition, it is obviously true that Raptor Lake chips are not the entire portable computer market: there are many other intel CPUs and, of course, also laptops with AMD.
Even so, clearly Raptor Lake remains a popular option for traditional notebooks, which means PC NO AI, and some of the best laptops for games also, so if this price increase is really real, the problem is that it is another pressure on laptop manufacturers. Do not forget that these suppliers also face the increase in RAM prices in the fourth quarter and ascending movement with SSD prices also, an unfortunate trio of key components that could add an unpleasant headache when trying to fix the price of its products.
As the Digitimes report points out, this is a difficult situation for PC manufacturers that are now trying to plan Black Friday sales: tempting prices will be difficult to obtain with the market forces currently in place that increase costs for laptop manufacturers.
It is also interesting to see the observation of the report that the PCs are not shooting to all cylinders as analysts expected now, and that sales remain warm, with consumers not tempted by these devices (or in fact companies to some extent). That makes sense to me: I know that I do not feel particularly attracted to buy a co -pilot+ PC, and although I would not rule out the idea, I certainly would not want to pay a premium for that device. It is quite clear that the exclusive characteristics of AI offered by Copilot+ Machines can be moderately convincing in some cases, but they are mostly cuts that do not worry me too much.
Said all this, analyst companies and some notebook manufacturers are singing a different melody in AI PC sales, although much of the thrust is still focused on how successful these devices will be in the future.
In fact, the end of life of Windows 10, which occurs next month, can help light the PC AI sales a little more, since that will mean that a good amount of new Windows 11 devices will be bought to replace the PCs with Windows 10. However, as the report observes, it is likely that the business market is probable, but not necessarily to consumers, and do not forget that people can now Register for an additional year support for Windows 10 for free.
At this time, there is an air of concern in weak PC sales in general, which worsens that with the increase in component costs, Black Friday agreements on laptops may not be as convincing as usual, so notebook manufacturers can have difficulty capitalizing this time normally booming for sales.
