Camel, tortured by the owner, undergoes major surgery

Karachi:

Chandni, the two -year -old girl that camel brutally tortured by an owner in Sukkur for deviating to her fields, has undergone greater surgery in a shelter house in Murad Memon Goth.

According to the refuge management, a veterinarians team successfully repaired its fractured jaw by inserting rods and a support frame to restore it to its position. During the same procedure, veterinarians also amputated their severely infected rear leg to prevent the spread of a potentially deadly infection.

The animal received anesthesia and strong analgesics throughout surgery.

Chandni had been fighting multiple injuries that threaten life, including a crushed leg, a broken jaw, a burned tongue and a blood transmitted blood infection.

Before surgery, blood and radiograph analysis were performed, while two other camels, Kimi and Kelly were examined as possible blood donors.

Refugio officials said Chandni had remained with a special diet that comprised camel milk, carrot paste, bottle pumpkin, rice, jagger and jaggery leaves, and was drinking water in satisfactory quantities.

When qualifying surgery is a success, management said that the next few hours are still critical.

“She is under intensive care, but her survival now depends on both medical support and prayers,” said a refuge representative.
