The winner of the Super Bowl, Kurt Warner, enjoys some of the elements that the latest adjustments to the NFL dynamic start rule provide, but also believes that they are far from being perfect.
Warner suggested that changes in output kicks finally provide too much competitive advantage to offenses.
“I enjoy watching Kickoff’s turns again … but does the NFL competition committee take into account how good the kickers are now?” The NFL MVP twice asked in X. “The units must be like 15 yards on average to enter the FG range … it seems to be skewing things even more for the offensive! I think everything should win … Not given!”

The dynamic start rule was implemented before the beginning of the 2024 season. The new directive created a landing zone between the final zone and the 20 -yard line. The players of each team expect between the 30 and 40 yards lines for the ball to be received or demolished.
In week 1 of the 2024 season, the teams returned 75.6% of the departure kicks, the highest rate at any week since the 2010 season.

Before the 2025 season began, the League approved more changes in its dynamic starters. This season, some touchbacks resulted in the ball was placed in the 35 -yard line. If a team is left behind on the scoreboard, now you have the option to declare a kick on the side.

In addition, if a kick launches below the designated landing zone, the receiving team will begin its impulse in the 40 -yard line.

Many special team coordinators have had the task of finding kick strategies that end the ball falling inside the landing zone. The objective is likely to be more difficult for the receiving team to launch the ball in a clean and effective way to reduce the return yard.
Other teams seem to have no problem granting 35 yards and ask the kickers to kick the ball far enough to trigger an automatic touchback.
The beginning was a topic of debate after Thursday’s game between the Cardinals of Arizona and the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks began what ended up being their winning trip in the 40 -yard line after the cardinal kickoff debacle at the last minute.
Seattle then quickly marched to the field goal field and then celebrated moving to 3-1.
