After generating controversy during the presentation ceremony after the final of the 2025 Cup Asia, India is taking the winner’s trophy to the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The Indian team refused to collect the trophy of the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), Mohsin Naqvi, after defeating Pakistan in the final for five WICKETS in Dubai on Sunday.
According to the reports, the measure reached the directives of the Cricket Control Board in India (BCCI); However, Naqvi, who is also the president of the Cricket Board of Pakistan (PCB), remained firm that he would present the trophy as president of ACC.
The BCCI secretary, Devajit Saikia, has now confirmed the same for the Indian media.
“We decided not to take the trophy of the president of ACC, who turns out to be one of Pakistan’s main leaders,” said Saikia, the Indian media citadon.
The dispute resulted in a brief delay in the presentation ceremony, which saw Pakistan players collecting their medals as finalists.
The presenter Simon Daull confirmed the conclusion of the ceremony after the match without the winning team receiving the trophy.
“The ACC informed me that the Indian Cricket team will not collect its awards tonight. So that concludes the presentation after the game,” Doul informed.
However, the players of India Tilak Varma, Abhishek Sharma and Kuldeep Yadav appeared to accept their individual awards.
Subsequently, the organizers took the Asia Cup trophy with them, leaving the Indian team hoping to have the title trophy in their hands.
Naqvi’s insistence on presenting the trophy to the winning team occurred despite the recent acts of the Indian team to drag politics into the game, with Indian Captain Suryakumar Yadav rejecting a habitual handshake with Salman Ali Agha as Pakistan in his group phase game.
He repeated the same in his next two games, an act that has been convicted by experts worldwide.
BCCI’s secretary has now confirmed his plans to file a complaint against Naqvi for the trophies row at the next CPI meeting, scheduled in November.
BCCI’s secretary spoke on the same line as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who equated the victory of the Crick to the “Sindor Operation”, the name given to the Indian strike series in Pakistan, which resulted in the martyrdom of several civilians.
“#Operationesindoor in the field of games. The result is the same: India wins! Congratulations to our Crickets,” Modi wrote in an X publication after the final of the Asia Cup.
Immediately in bringing politics and war to sport, Saikia said that the “Indian Armed Forces delivered in the border area. The same has now been repeated in Dubai.”
