“Mets fans everywhere,” Cohen wrote in X. “I owe you an apology. You did your part by appearing and supporting the team. We did not do our part. We will make an autopsy and discover the obvious and less obvious reasons why the team did not work until your expectations and my expectations.
“We all feel raw emotions today. I know how long and effort you have put on this team. The result was unacceptable. Your emotions tell me how much you care and continue to motivate the organization to do better. Thanks to the best fans of sports.”
Minutes after the loss, the first base Pete Alonso said he was going to choose not to participate in his treatment and try the free agency.
“There are some great types in this club house, there are some great people in the staff,” he said. “And every day, it has been a pleasure to come to work and put the orange and blue. I have really appreciated and I have not been full of gratitude every day. Nothing is guaranteed, but we will see what happens.

“I loved being a Met, so I hope you have appreciated me in the same way (in a way).”
The Mets had a hot start. New York was 45-24 on June 12, one of the best records in MLB at that time, and it was only 38-55 the rest of the season to finish 83-79 after its last overwhelming defeat on Sunday night.
New York reached the 2025 season with the second highest total payroll, more than $ 341 million, and the second highest active list payroll with $ 266.6 million, according to Spotrac. Juan Soto arrived at the New York Yankees Mets in a 15 -year agreement, according to reports, for a value of $ 765 million. And while the bats were hot to start the year, the team cooled when it mattered.
The Mets suffered a losing run of eight games at the worst time, starting with a series against the reds and continuing through the Filis de Philadelphia and Texas Rangers clashes. The team recovered against San Diego’s parents and then dropped two of three against Washington’s nationals.
The series against the Marlins was crucial, but New York could only get a victory from the three games. New York had 11-17 in August and finished 10-15 in September.
