Possibly more than most of the technological devices I have played in recent years, Amazon’s Kindle Scribe Colorsooft feels like the listening product.
It is a thinner product, lighter, more open, smarter and certainly more colorful than the writing that came before. The ereader ready for the pen seems to respond virtually all the updates of the desire list and maybe a little more.
Okay, my time with the new E-TINK device of $ 629, which Amazon revealed on Tuesday (September 30, 2025) in its huge 2025 device event, was limited, but I will not lie; I am already impressed.
The specifications are part of the story. This Kindle Scribe Colorsooft manages to offer a larger screen, 11 inches instead of 10.2 inches in the Escriba 2024, while it remains 33 grams lighter and thinner than 0.4 mm.
The design is much more classic, similar to a tablet, with a balanced bevel that surrounds the new color screen for color. Apart from the Kindle logo and four small rubber feet, the back has no problems. There is an ignition button on an edge, and the lower edge is thick enough to host the USB-C load port.
Paper design
Holding the tablet in my hand, I was surprised how light and thin it felt. I had no trouble grabbing a corner and supporting its weight with only two fingers. It is so thin that the pen is now a bit thicker than the type scribe’s chassis. It is good that Amazon increases the power of the internal magnet. I did my best to shake the pencil of the scribe in vain.
The touch screen is quick and practically free of flashes, something that I noticed while we quickly advanced through previous sketches and notes.
And, of course, it is a friendly color screen, which means that, in addition to the text and sketch of 300ppi, you can mark and draw in half a dozen colors (there is also a colorful wheel that I did not try) and see content in up to 4,096 colors (at 150ppi). There are a variety of pen, although I think the source pen is the most satisfactory.
Reading and writing
Now, I have read some content on Amazon’s lovely Kindle Colorsooft, but being able to draw and mark the colors on an e -ink device is something completely different.
First, the pen in the digital document is remarkably receptive. It seemed that the pink, green, yellow and black ink came out of the pen included and the right on the screen. There is no visible distance between the tip of the pen and the exit on the screen. In addition, the pen and the screen worked exceptionally well to recognize the pressure. I marveled at how I could change effortlessness from the thickest line to the thinnest, almost thin.
This type of response establishes a reference point for what you should expect from an e-twin device.
The colors, in general, are also seen vibrant and, in some way, a little brighter than we saw in the original Kindle color. This is likely because the stack of images on the new device is thinner, and although Amazon miniaturized the LEDs on this device, there are actually more of them.
I am also impressed that the new Kindle Scribe Colorsooft is more open than its predecessor, since it is ready to work directly with OneDrive and Google Drive for the importation of files. However, export remains somewhat more limited, since both platforms will only receive PDF files from the Scribe Colorsooft. Eventually, you can send round trip notes to Alexa+.
There are other productivity characteristics that, although I could not try them, promise to make this a more open and useful system. They include search with AI, fast notes and work space to group books, PDF and other files.
The cost of fresh
Now for the bad news. This lovely hardware piece begins at $ 629 for a 32 GB model. The previous Kindle screen (monochrome, obviously) began at $ 399. And that price does not even get the charming garnet option.
Since it is an e-twin device, drink power (even with activated LEDs) and can last 8 weeks with a single load. If you write it every day for approximately 30 minutes, the battery life can be reduced to two weeks, which is quite good for my book.
It is early with the new Amazon Kindle Scribe Colorsooft. I like its appearance, sensation and performance, but I worry about the price. It is clearly a powerful and colorful tool for those with deep pockets and interest in seeing, creating and doing color.
We will know with certainty if it is worth the investment once we have executed our complete test battery.
