The New York Mets were at a 45-24 point and had the best record in baseball, but they finished the season in 83-79 and the postseason was lost.

The MVP of the American League once, Mo Vaughn, spoke with Pak Gazette Digital about the collapse of the Mets and where it went wrong. Vaughn discussed how the team’s National League Championship Series in 2024 may have played a factor.

“They went to the league championship series last year. They knew how to do it. They knew how to get there. And what happens is that you spend a lot of energy reaching that point. Now you, now you are restart. You have another season, but you are not so sharp,” Vaughn told Pak Gazette Digital.

“You are not so important, you are not so particular because it only takes that concentration. You know, if you have the opportunity to get there, you will turn it on, you will turn it on. And that is what I felt about the Mets.”

If the Mets had won only one more game, they would have had a better record than the Cincinnati Reds and would reach the playoffs. Vaughn said the Mets lacked the “tight concentration” to get there.

“They simply have to meet again, reconfigure their brains,” Vaughn said. “And it’s not that you are not taking it seriously. I want fans to understand. It’s not as if someone was screwing or someone was not playing harder. I just needed that tight concentration to reach the playoffs.”

Vaughn said the METS will have a new mentality in spring training next season.

“I think that now what will happen is that they will return to spring training. And that year they have had that year in which they did not succeed. They will be thinking about the year they succeeded, and now they go to the business of everything important,” Vaughn said.

“When everything matters, it is when you get the best baseball that is played. But they will learn, they will get there. They are too talented. They obtained too many boys. They obtained too many boys who know how to play.”

Vaughn also praised Juan Soto for having a first “incredible” season with the Mets.

“There is a lot of advertising to be the best paid player. You obtained all Yankee Mets. Why was it, where did it?

Vaughn mentioned how it could have taken some time to adjust to Soto at the beginning of the year.

“Something like in a small fog, you are not sure where you are. But once he put his feet on the floor, it was the best guy there. So he came out and had a, you know, he had a, there were 40 homers, 30 stolen, 30 stolen bases, one hundred walks, one hundred rbi.”

In 160 games, Soto had an average. The percentage of .396 also led the National League.

Unfortunately for Mets, it was not enough to boost the postseason.

Vaughn played in the largest leagues for 12 seasons. He spent eight with Boston’s red socks, two with the Angels of the Anaheim and two with the Mets.

The three-time All-Star had an average race batting of .293 with 328 homers and 1,064 driven races. It has a podcast called “The Mo Vaughn Podcast”, which debuted in August. He has interviewed the former MLB commissioner, Bud Selig, six times there
