  • Trump signs the order to protect Qatar from foreign aggression
  • Us to consider “any armed attack” against Qatar as a threat to Washington.
  • The order occurs after the Israeli prime minister apologizes to Qatar’s prime minister.

The United States will consider “any armed attack” against Qatar’s territory as a threat to Washington and will provide security guarantees to the Arab Gulf, said the White House, after an Israeli strike in the country last month.

“In the light of the continuous threats to the state of Qatar raised by foreign aggression, it is the policy of the United States to guarantee the territorial security and integrity of the State of Qatar against the external attack,” said an executive order signed by the president of the United States, Donald Trump.

In the case of an attack against Qatar, the United States “will take all legal and appropriate measures, including diplomatic, economic and, if necessary, the army, to defend the interests of the United States and the state of Qatar and to restore peace and stability,” the order said.

The agreement occurs after an Israeli strike over the key regional ally of the United States on September 9, aimed at officials of the Palestinian Group Hamas who discussed a peace proposal from the United States for the war in Gaza.

The Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, described Qatar Prime Minister of the White House on Monday, apologizing for the strikes and promising not doing it again, the United States said.

Netanyahu was in Washington to meet Trump, and until then he had been challenging since he ordered the strikes of September 9.

Qatar is a key ally of the United States in the Gulf and houses the largest American military base in the Al-Udeid region, which also includes a regional headquarters for elements of the United States Central Command.
