- The T-Mobile T-Satellite service is now available for more applications
- It allows you to use some important applications when connected to a satellite
- T-Mobile has also closed its exclusive storage offers of Google One
T-Mobile has been offering Starlink connectivity to its customers for a few months, and the T-Satellite service gives you a way to contact people and connect to the Internet when mobile data are not available. It has just been updated to add satellite connectivity to a set of popular applications, which makes them more usable when you are out of the network and far from cell towers.
Publishing in his blog, T-Mobile announced that several applications will feel the benefits. That includes Alltrails, Accuweather, Celtopo, Google Maps, Onx, T-Life, WhatsApp and X. which expands the amount of applications that can take advantage of the satellite service, and those options join several native devices, such as Apple Music, Google Menses, Pixel Weather and more, which were already compatible.
And the improvements have not just appeared on the software side, since T-Mobile has added 17 more phones that will work with T-Satellite. That includes Apple’s iPhone and the third generation iPhone, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and the Ultra Galaxy S25, and more. There is a complete list on the T-Mobile support page, but it can move down until the end of this story to obtain the complete list of new models.
Keep in mind that when you are connected to a satellite, you are unlikely to get the full experience to which you are accustomed to these applications. In most cases, your connection will probably be slower than when you are in mobile data or Wi-Fi, and certain characteristics may not be available.
T-Satellite is included in the experience of T-Mobile Beyond and Go5g following plans. If it is in a different plan or is a client of a rival cell supplier, it can still be registered for $ 10 per month. You must also have a smartphone that is capable of connecting to the satellites, which includes the iPhone 13 or posterior, the Samsung Galaxy S21 or posterior, and the 9a or posterior Google Pixel or posterior (the support for Pixel 9 “will arrive soon,” says T-Mobile).
Something won, something lost
However, not all are good news for T-Mobile customers. At the same time that it was expanding its satellite offer T, T-Mobile and Google they have silently abandoned an exclusive level of Google One membership that included unlimited storage of full resolution images on Google Photos.
This agreement allowed T-Mobile customers to access a special benefit from Google Photos by subscribing to a Google One membership through their cell supplier. In general, paying $ 9.99 per month would give 2 TB of total storage on Google servers.
However, if it was recorded through T-Mobile, this would be complemented with unlimited storage of Google Photos, to a complete resolution, nothing less. There were also lower levels that came with additional storage compared to the regular offer of Google One.
Unfortunately, these offers are no longer available for new customers, as of September 30. However, if you are a current user of this service, you can continue using it, provided you do not cancel it.
If you are looking for a new place to store your photos, you still have other options, from the best Google Photos alternatives to the best cloud storage for photos. Make a good decision and your images will be healthy and solid, even without the storage level of Google One of T-Mobile.
