Flood loss report that is due next week

During this year’s monsoon, strong floods occurred in the Ravi, Sutlej and Chenab rivers. At the national level, floods caused 1,037 deaths with 509 deaths reported in KP and 322 in Punjab.

Officials of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Friday to the National Committee for Planning and Development of the Assembly on Recent Floods

Chaired by MNA Syed Abdul Qadir Gilani, the meeting was convened to review the items of the agenda related to recent flood damage, the scope and performance of the National Disaster Risk Management Fund (NDRMF) and flood prevention projects in Baluchist.

NDMA officials told the panel that in general, 1,066 people suffered wounds. Twenty -seven Districts of Punjab were affected.

The planning secretary told the committee that the work was ongoing to prepare estimates of the financial losses caused by floods.

The preliminary evaluation was expected to be completed in early next week. In addition, he said that the government had also contacted donor agencies in relation to flood damage.

The floods that hit the country this year so far have caused an estimated RS3,856 billion in damages, while the economy faces additional RS740 billion in potential losses, the authorities revealed on Thursday.
