PMD forecasts rain, thunderstorms in northern Pakistan


The Department of Meteorology of Pakistan (PMD) has predicted generalized rain, thunderstorms, strong winds and snowfall in the northern parts of the country during the next 24 hours, warning of sudden floods and damage to weak facilities.

According to the PMD, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltist, Islamabad and Punjab will be beaten by closed winds, dust storms, storms and rain, while mountainous areas can receive snowfalls.

The authorities warned that strong downpours could trigger sudden flood Kashmir.

The MET Office also warned that stormy conditions, influenced by hail storms, rays and strong winds, can alter daily life and represent risks to vulnerable infrastructure, such as mud houses, walls, electricity posts, advertising fences, solar panels and vehicles. Travelers and tourists are advised to plan their trips carefully in line with the prevailing conditions.

Islamabad and adjacent areas are likely to witness cloudy skies with rain, thunderstorms and racing winds. Some areas could experience strong showers and hail.

In KP, generalized rain and thunderstorms in districts are expected, including Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Batagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur, Mohman Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Waziram and Kurram. Heavy rains and hail can also hit in some areas.

It is forecast that Punjab will receive rain and thunderstorms in multiple districts, including Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Atock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Nanowal, Nanowal, Manwali, Manwali, Manwali, Manwali Khhush, Khushus, Khushor Bhakkar, Layyah, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chinint, Faisalabad, Pakpattan, Bahawalnagar, Vehari, Khanewal, Fine Rajanpur, Koti Addemy. Heavy showers and hail are also expected in some places.

Most of Sindh is expected to remain hot and dry, although Uumerkot, Tharparkar and some coastal areas can see partially cloudy skies, light rain and thunderstorms. In Baluchistan, the weather is likely to remain dry and hot, except for partially cloudy conditions along the coast.

Kachemira and Gilgit-Baltistan are also predicted to receive rain, thunderstorms and strong winds, with possibilities of heavy rains and hail in certain areas.

In the last 24 hours, Punjab, KP, Gilgit-Baltistan and Cashmiro were witnesses of rain with thunderstorms and strong winds, while strong showers were reported in some districts. The rest of the country remained large and dry.

The PMD has urged citizens to remain vigilant, follow weather warnings and take the necessary precautions during the unstable conditions ongoing.
