- Bad technology is causing stress and leading to disease days, says the survey
- Try productivity by metrics does not work
- Reducing the amount of tools is not the solution
Almost two thirds (63%) of the workers say that technology has negatively impacted their lives during the past year, with many dissatisfied workers with the technological solutions that provide their workplaces.
Almost one in four (23%) have sought a new job due to technological stress, and one in 20 renounces as a direct result, according to a new Adaptavist report.
In addition to the lack of adequate tools, workers are increasingly concerned about the concept always online and constant digital communications.
Too much technology is adding stress at work?
Around a fifth pressure scored to stay connected outside the working hours (19%) and a sense of exclusion caused by digital communications (19%), and even more worrying about the tone of lack of online communication (29%).
As a result, 30% feel above the overwhelming and 41% suffer stress or anxiety for notification overload, which leads to 12% of global workers who take a disease license due to workplace technology.
However, the solution is not as simple as reducing tools online: only 16% want less tools, but 41% want more training and 45% want more learning resources. The study supports that, with 23% of feeling stressed due to lack of support with new tools.
“Companies that avoid exhaustion and disconnection will focus on something more than selecting the appropriate tools; they will focus on human elements, from preserving the autonomy of workers to creating support cultures around the adoption of technology,” said Neal Riley, the innovation leader of the Adaptavista group.
Adaptavist also highlighted a drop in the so -called “task discretion” since the 1990s, particularly in the United Kingdom. Since workers have less control over how they work, one in five (18%) now feels pressure to demonstrate productivity through outdated and inappropriate metrics.
Riley advised companies that develop labor cultures of understanding and support, focusing on human elements on black and white metrics, to guarantee longevity.
