- Windows 11 is obtaining a missing piece of multiple monitors functionality
- This allows interaction with the taskbar system tray in a secondary monitor
- The function is in a view at this time and will be in the October update
Those in Windows 11 who use multiple monitors with their PC finally have a feature that can be basic, but it was certainly very won.
As Windows Central realized, Windows 11 users will soon be adorned with a fully functional taskbar in a secondary monitor connected to the PC.
In case I did not know, with a multiple monitors configuration in Windows 11, only the main screen allows you to interact with the system tray area on the side of the right of the bar.
This is the section with the date and time, and the calendar and Flyout panels of the notification center when clicking on the date (and other options in addition). While all this works as normal in the primary monitor in a multiple screen settings, so far, this part of the interface has just displayed with a secondary screen.
There is no capacity to interact with any element of the system tray in the secondary monitor, all that can do is watch the clock (or other icons), but all that has changed with the latest Windows 11 update.
From the optional update for September, Microsoft tells us: “The functionality of the notification center is now available in secondary monitors. To open it, select the date and time in the system tray in the taskbar.”
While I would not advise you to install an update of preview (optional), since it is still in the tests, although the final phase, this work will be finished and part of the next monthly update that is due on October 14. Well, except any last minute problem that is in the tests, that is.
Also in this patch, multiple monitors configurations should now have a better performance when playing with the active game bar, as Microsoft makes clear: “This update could especially help users with multiple monitors who have different update rates.”
Analysis: Windows 11 as a work in progress, another amazing wait
When Windows 11 appeared for the first time, there were some unpopular regressions with the operating system compared to Windows 10. One of my greatest complaints was that the applications of ‘never combining’ disappeared as a taskbar option (so the instances of the same application were executed were always Combined under a single entrance), and the elimination of this functionality of the system tray was another head scraper for multiple monitor settings.
Yes, Windows 10 offers completely right access to the notification center (and other cuts) in primary and secondary monitors, so its elimination was not well received by those with multiple monitors configurations.
At least now it is reinstalled, or will be in just over a week, but remember that Windows 11 debuted four years ago. So, the fact that this apparently simple ability has been returned so long is quite amazing, even if multiple monitors are certainly a kind of niche configuration. However, it is not so weird, since it is a useful use for an old outgoing screen when you buy a new monitor, and certainly those who work on your PC (independent or work from home) are quite likely to have more than one monitor.
