- Wi-Fi Halow demonstrated as a wireless backhaul for Lorawan link doors replacing cables
- Halowlink 2 Gateway announced with extended range, flexible modes and global region support
- New MM8108 evaluation kits and Halowlink 2 hardware expansion options for developers
In the recent conference of The Things 2025, Morse Micro and The Things Industries demonstrated Wi-Fi Halow as a wireless return for the doors of Lorawan, which shows how technology can replace connections with cable or short-range.
Lorawan is a network protocol for low power devices that send small data packages to long distances. Link doors collect that information and forward it online, but generally trust Ethernet or short-range Wi-Fi for backhaul connection.
Wi-Fi Halow works in the Sub-GHz spectrum, delivering a kilometer range coverage with a stronger penetration through walls and obstacles than conventional Wi-Fi.

The protocol has already been tested more than 16 km in rural conditions, and in CES 2025, Morse Micro showed that it could deliver speeds of up to 250 Mbps.
Halow’s pairing with Lorawan gives operators flexibility in farms, factories and large buildings where the wiring installation is expensive or not very practical.
The demonstration in Amsterdam used MM8108 chip from Morse Micro. The company also revealed new evaluation kits, including the MM8108-EKH19, which combines a reference design of the USB 2.0 adapter with an SMA Wi-Fi Halow antenna and a Wi-Fi 6 GL-MT3000 router.
Kits are intended to help developers add halow support to new and existing devices.
“This demonstration shows that Lorawan’s liaison doors deployment no longer needs to be limited by wired backhaul or short-range wireless in a local Internet connection. Wi-Fi Halow unlocks flexible placement and simplifies connectivity, opening new opportunities for IoT industrial construction applications, agricultural and intelligent throughout the world,” said Wienke Giezeman, CEO of the Industries of Things.
“By combining the Morse Micro Morse Wi-Fi Halow technology with the Things stack, we have shown that the low-range low-range Wi-Fi return for Lorawan’s bond doors is not only possible … it’s easy,” said Michael de Nil, CEO of Morse Micro.
Mors Micro also announced the Halowlink 2 Gateway, a Halowlink 1 successor who combines Wi-Fi Halow with 2.4GHz Wi-Fi.
It supports several regions, including the United States, Europe, Australia, Japan, Singapore and South Korea.
Halowlink 2 works as a halow Wi-Fi router, access point and extensor, allowing users to create optimized networks for halow devices.
When combined with a second unit, you can extend the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi access points beyond the range of conventional equipment, providing connectivity for devices that are not ehalow.
The entrance door works with the MM8108 8MHz module and the AW-HM677 Halow Wi-Fi module of Azurewave, along with a MediaTek MT7603E 2×2 8×2 802.11n radio.
It is executed in OpenWRT 23.05 and includes a web interface, access to the command line, a state board, configuration assistants and simplified software updates.
Hardware specifications include a CPU Mediatek MT7621, 256 MB of DRAM, 32 MB of Flash Nand storage, transmission feed of up to 26DBM and power input 5V/2a.
The connectivity includes two Gigabit Ethernet ports, a USB-C port for power data and Ethernet, double-band Wi-Fi with 2.4GHZ 802.11ny Wi-Fi Halow.
“The MM8108 and our rapid expansion ecosystem mark an innovative moment for the Internet of things,” said Michael de Nil, co -founder and CEO of Morse Micro.
“With Wi-Fi Halow, we are not only delivering silicon, we are making the basis for IoT 2.0: an era in which billions of devices can be connected safely, reliably, and with unprecedented performance and range We interact with the world around us.
Halowlink 2 is listed soon available on the Morse Micro site.
