Key suspects identified in Qazi Nisar attack: IGP

The inspector General of Police (IGP) Gilgit-Baltistan Afzal Mohammad Butt revealed on Monday that eight to ten terrorists were involved in the attempt to murder against the prominent religious scholar Mulana Qazi Nisar Ahmad.

He said that true perpetrators have been identified and that their arrests are expected in the coming days.

In statements to the media representatives in Gilgit, the PGI said: “We have identified the real culprits behind the attack. Our intelligence and research teams are working 24 hours to ensure that those responsible are arrested as soon as possible.”

He added that all law enforcement agencies were coordinating closely and that progress in the case had been significant since the incident took place.

The Secretary of the Interior, Gilgit-Baltistan Ali Asghar, also confirmed that potential tests and clients had been obtained through joint efforts of the police and intelligence institutions.

“This case is being investigated with maximum seriousness. The network involved is tracked, and no one will be saved,” said the Secretary of the Interior.

Previously, Interior Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Shams said substantial evidence with respect to the terrorists involved in the attack against Amer Ahl-E-Sunnat Wal Jamaat Gilgit-Baltistan and Kohistan, Qazi Nisar Ahmad.

“The agencies of application of the law and intelligence institutions are working with the maximum precision to reach the culprits. The terrorists involved in this atrocious act will be persecuted to their tombs and brought to the public,” Shams promised only.

When calling him a high profile case, the Interior Minister said the government was dealing with the matter with total seriousness. He also urged the public to remain patient and avoid disseminating rumors in social networks.

“Apello to people to play a positive role in social networks and avoid speculation. The law will take its due course,” he said.

Prime Minister Haji Gulbar Khan visited Gilgit on Monday morning to ask about the health of Maulana Qazi Nisar Ahmad. He expressed solidarity and prayed for his rapid recovery.

The Gilgit-Baltistan force commander also visited the hospital, met with Maulana Nisar and presented a bouquet of flowers as a gesture of good will. Subsequently, the main secretary Gilgit-Baltistan also visited the hospital and expressed his best wishes for the recovery of the scholar.

Meanwhile, the Gilgit-Baltistan Apex Committee convened an emergency session chaired by Prime Minister Haji Gulbar Khan in the Apex Committee room in Jutial. The meeting was attended by Commander FCNA, main secretary, IGP, Interior Secretary and senior representatives of application and intelligence agencies.

During the meeting, the participants strongly condemned terrorist attacks against Maulana Qazi Nisar Ahmad and Judge Malik Inayat-Ur-Rehman, reaffirming that peace and order in the region would be preserved at all costs and that those involved in these atrocious acts would face justice without delay.

Prime Minister Haji Gulbar Khan appealed to people to remain calm and fully cooperate with security institutions to guarantee lasting peace in Gilgit-Baltistan. Commander FCNA said the security forces were fully prepared to protect citizens and maintain the law and order.
