Islamabad:
Representatives of Pakistan, China, Russia and Iran met in Moscow on Monday to coordinate their positions before the seventh round of Moscow format consultations about Afghanistan, scheduled to begin on Tuesday (today).
The meeting gathered special envoys of the four regional powers for detailed discussions about the situation in Afghanistan, particularly continuous security challenges and the threat of terrorism.
According to a statement issued by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the four -part meeting focused on the preparations for Tuesday’s session, including the writing of the final statement of the format.
The sources said that the participants also discussed their joint opposition to the establishment of any foreign military base within Afghanistan, an issue that is expected to appear prominently at the main meeting.
Previously, the special representative of Pakistan for Afghanistan, Ambassador Mohammad Sadiq, celebrated a series of bilateral meetings in Moscow before consultations.
He met with his Iranian counterpart, Mohammad Reza Bahrami, to discuss the latest developments in Afghanistan, shared regional concerns, particularly the persistent threat of terrorism and emphasized the importance of continuous dialogue and coordination between neighboring countries.
Ambassador Sadiq also met with China’s special envoy for Afghanistan, Ambassador Yue Xiayong, where both parties reaffirmed the importance of regional security cooperation, anti -terrorist coordination and the need to address humanitarian concerns in Afghanistan through collective action.
The meeting, according to Ambassador Sadiq, stressed the strong association between Islamabad and Beijing to promote stability and development in the region.
In addition, Sadiq met with his Russian counterpart, ambassador Zamir Kabulov, to discuss measures to improve regional cooperation in Afghanistan. The Pakistan ambassador to Kabul, Ubaidur Rehman Nizamani, was also present during the meeting.
Released in 2017 by Russia, the Moscow format in Afghanistan serves as one of the most important regional diplomatic platforms that address the Afghan theme. It brings together the immediate and extended neighbors of Afghanistan to deliberate about political reconciliation, anti -terrorism and humanitarian concerns in the country devastated by war.
The main members of the format include Russia, China, Pakistan, Iran, India and the five central Asia states: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzista, Tayikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
