If you prefer to install Windows 11 without linking it to a Microsoft account, those days are clearly numbered, since Microsoft is busy closing more than lagoons that allow the use of what is known as a local account.
Windows Central informs that in the Publication of Blog for the Preview of Compilation 26220.6772 of Windows 11, Microsoft informs us that it is “eliminating the known mechanisms to create a local account in the Windows configuration experience.”
A local account simply means a user account that is alone on the PC, and is not linked online to a Microsoft account, and as some people do not want to register in the latter, they prefer to continue with a local installation.
It is already the case that the Windows 11 configuration forces you to use a Microsoft account, but the point is that there are some intelligent false ones that can be used to avoid this requirement. This is what Microsoft refers to when it talks about “known mechanisms” and, therefore, the idea is that you are eliminating these popular solutions to obtain a local account.
Microsoft also warns that these Fudges could mean that the important parts of the Windows 11 configuration process could accidentally omit.
Microsoft explains: “While these mechanisms are often used to avoid the Microsoft account configuration, they also inadvertently omit critical configuration screens, which can cause users to leave OOBE [out of box experience, meaning initial setup] with a device that is not completely configured for use. Users must complete OOBE with the Internet and a Microsoft account, to ensure that the device is configured correctly. “
ANALYSIS: Impopular repression continues
This change is not yet happening: as noted, it is in preview, so only the test process for now. However, it is very likely that it will be completed in the finished version of Windows 11, considering that Microsoft has already been working to close the gaps that allow a local account in the recent past.
Therefore, this is a continuous effort to derail the solutions solutions to use a local account with Windows 11, apparently so that users do not “omit critical configuration screens” and end with a PC that is not “completely configured for use.”
I don’t know exactly what Microsoft means with that, but I can only guess that it could be a reference to a device that does not have internet connectivity after configuration (which is what the software giant has alluded to the past by reviewing these solutions).
The cynics, of course, already suggest that what is mostly missing in terms of configuration screens is the opportunity for Microsoft to sell its services and the like (to which you can also get used, as you find this sales in daily life with Windows 11, also).
There may be other solutions that are discovered in the future, of course. Now people are forced to look outside the existing false ones, you can find other steps secondary to a Microsoft account. And as Windows Central points out, you can play with a Windows 11 ISO to obtain a local installation, but this is something quite technical, and beyond the scope of the average user (it is likely that any new fudges unfortunately also be technically complex).
It is worth noting that those in Windows 11 Pro can use the ‘Join’ domain command in their place ‘to divert the creation of Microsoft accounts. This is a business option, but it simply cannot join this domain: however, it is not an option with Windows 11 Home, as it could assume.
What is quite clear here is that the war has been declared in the Microsoft accounts dodgers, and if there are other ways to obtain a local installation with Windows 11, it is likely that we can expect more repressions in the future.
