Sohail Afridi given key task of restoring peace in KP

KARACHI:

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership has entrusted newly appointed Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi with the critical responsibility of restoring peace in the province, party sources told this correspondent.

According to PTI internal sources, the management decided to make a change in the top provincial post mainly due to the worsening law and order situation in KP. They said Afridi will outline his priorities after formally taking the oath of office.

He is expected to unveil his political framework in line with the party founder’s vision, sources said, adding that the incoming chief minister will take a multi-pronged approach to bringing peace to the province, including consultations with the federal government and other stakeholders.

“A detailed review of the security situation in KP will be carried out and an integrated and long-term strategy for peace will be formulated,” a senior PTI leader revealed. “The party believes that only a unified and inclusive approach involving all stakeholders can lead to sustainable peace in the province.”

PTI sources maintained that the leaders are not completely satisfied with the current federal policy towards the KP and are advocating for a unified national approach to security issues in the province.

It was also learned that the new prime minister will approach political leaders from all walks of life to give them confidence. “Efforts will be made to ensure a broad-based consultative process for a lasting peace policy,” another source added.

On the other hand, key figures of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have assured that the federal government will provide full support to the new provincial government in its efforts to restore peace in the province.
