NYT Strands Today (Game #587): The Answers
The answers to today’s Strands game number 587 are…
- PEACOCK
- ARCHES
- APPLE
- DIANA
- SHELL
- WHISTLE
- SPANGRAM: ICONICLOGOS
- My rating: Easy
- My score: Perfect
All these ICONICLOGISTS have the same thing in common: that we don’t need to know the names of the companies to recognize the brands.
Its power is such that Target’s BULLSEYE and NBC’s PEACOCK are known beyond the US, while the others are ubiquitous around the world.
Considering their fame, it is incredible to think about the humble origins of many of these logos. The Nike SWOOSH, for example, was created by a graphic design student named Carolyn Davidson. The apocryphal story is that he was paid only $35 for his work, but several years later the company gave him shares that were worth $85 at the time, but which in 2023 could have been cashed in at $3 million, so not a bad payday after all.
