Justin Hawkins just admitted that he never “intended to incite a feud” with Yungblud.
Yungblud was furious after The Darkness frontman Justin criticized his MTV VMA tribute to the late Ozzy Osbourne, saying: “Yungblud seems to have positioned himself as a natural heir to Ozzy’s legacy, having nothing to do with the really important stuff.”
In a new video on his YouTube channel Justin Hawkins Rides Again titled Yungblud and the cost of having an opinionJustin said, “There’s nothing rivalry about this, especially when it comes to my reactions to the VMA performance.”
He could also be heard saying: “None of that was intended to incite a dispute. I think Yungblud is a very well-connected artist and, as such, dangerous. He is an individual who is not the type of bear you would go around bothering.”
“But I think that when real-time pitch correction occurs [referring to his criticism of Yungblud’s use of autotune] and stuff like that, and the other observations I made about the overall delivery… you’re talking about someone who came from musical theater through Disney and is now being praised as the future of rock. And if they have real-time pitch correction and that kind of context, I think it’s okay to be a little skeptical about it,” Justin said.
He continued: “I know it’s not a very popular opinion, but from the reactionary community, if you can’t say something negative about something that leaves you only one opinion available and that’s not how life works. Everyone can say whatever they want.”
“I’m not criticizing it because… I don’t even think I’m criticizing it. I think I’m making it clear that if the future of rock requires real-time pitch correction in a live environment, rock is pretty screwed, right?” Justin Hawkins concluded.
This comes after Yungblud criticized the “bitter and jealous” Justin Hawkins during his appearance on Ozzy Osbourne’s son Jack Osbourne’s show. Trying not to die podcast, where he said: “I think the strangest thing about that was that everything I was trying to do was what was best for your father, because he gave me a great gift.
“When people try to intellectualize the sense of spirit and six musicians on a stage say ‘fuck, I love you, man,’ it’s just bitter and jealous,” he said. Zombie the hitmaker further said at the time.
