The victim, identified as Arsalan, a cryptocurrency trader from northern Karachi, was forcibly taken away in a police car, allegedly by five plainclothes individuals.

They transferred $340,000 (worth over Rs 90 million) from his account to several other people using his phone.

The kidnapping took place on the night of December 25, when Arsalan was in his office located in a private housing society in Manghopir.

The perpetrators, who claimed to be police officers, blindfolded him, took him to the Saddar passport office and threatened him at gunpoint.

They stole his mobile phone, reset it and emptied his Rs 8,000 wallet before abandoning it near Mazar-e-Quaid.

Arsalan has named four suspects (Muzzamil, Hamad, Ashir and Zaman) and one unidentified individual in his report.

Police have filed a case under Section 365-A (Kidnapping for ransom) and Section 34 (Common intention). The case has been transferred to the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) for further investigation.

The victim claimed that the suspects had previously contacted him about cryptocurrency transactions, but he had rejected them.

According to police sources, evidence has been collected regarding the police motive and the officers involved.

The researchers have also traced the route followed by the mobile phone, which was observed at different points.
