It seems that the Sussexes have finally distanced themselves from the Royal Family, and royal commentator Jennie Bond is the expert in question who delivered this verdict.
He explained his reasons in a talk with The mirror and was quoted as saying: “I think [Harry and Meghan] have left their royal roles” because they are now essentially “full-blown celebrities.”
“And this award was for both of them, so it was only natural that they would make a joint appearance.”
For those who don’t know, the appearance in question was one involving both Wales and Sussex for World Mental Health Day.
However, Bond claims there was no “rivalry” in this because “both princes and Catherine were involved in mental health issues before Meghan arrived. It’s something they care deeply about.”
So “the message that both couples are promoting now is that society has to do something about the dangers that the Internet, and particularly social media, pose to our children. It is an important message and one that affects us all.” Because of this, she said in her closing comments: “I think both couples should be rightly applauded for using their fame, whether as royals or celebrities, to highlight this crucial issue.”
