Wallace and Gromit: The Birdest Revenge (Netflix)
Look
20 years after his last great adventure (yes, The Curse of the Rabbi ManReleased in 2005!), Wallace and Gromit are back on our screens in their latest claymation adventure. Revenge more bird. This time, the gentle inventor and his favorite dog are forced to face the return of the iconic villain Feathers McGraw, who uses Wallace’s latest creation, a robotic garden gnome named Norbot, to attempt to steal the infamous Blue Diamond once again.
Revenge more bird makes its international debut on Netflix today (January 3), but it aired on BBC One in the UK on Christmas Day, so I’ve already seen it and can attest to how absolutely brilliant it is. It’s fun, wonderfully lively, as always, and never outstays its welcome with its perfectly paced 80-minute running time. One best enjoyed with a side of Wensleydale and some crackers, and another to add to our list of the best Netflix movies in due course. – T.P.
The Rig season 2 (Prime Video)
Look
Supernatural thriller The platform became a global hit after its debut in January 2023. Now, the Prime Video drama returns for a second season as it continues the story of the Kinloch Bravo team, who were due to return to the continent when a mysterious fog and supernatural forces descend. They take over him.
In The platform In season 2, the survivors (now on a new high-tech platform deep in the Arctic Circle) take on a dangerous mission that sends them across the perilous frozen sea toward dark threats hidden beneath it. While The platform It may not be one of the best shows on Prime Video, but it tackles important topics about the future of the planet and has plenty of gripping action. Plus, it stars Martin Compston, who is brilliant at fulfillment of duty, That’s one of the reasons I’ll be tuning into this Amazon TV Original. – Grace Morris, entertainment writer
Front room (max.)
Look
With the long-awaited presentation of Robert Egger Nosferatu remake in theaters, you may be craving more horrors to sink your teeth into. If that’s the case, there’s a new A24 movie streaming on Max in The front room This weekend happens to be the directorial debut of Robert’s twin brothers, Max and Sam.
Unlike Max’s other horror releases this month, it takes on a more psychological thriller tone with its plot centering on a pregnant woman (Brandy Norwood) dealing with a sister-in-law from hell (Kathryn Hunter). Reviews were decidedly mixed upon its theatrical release, so I don’t expect it to join our list of the best Max movies, but many agree that Hunter stands out and, considering the trailer, terrified the ghoulish connoisseur. from TechRadar, Lucy Buglass, with her creepy mother-in-law. vibes, I’d say you’ve been warned. – Amelia Schwanke, Senior Entertainment Editor
I miss you (Netflix)
Look
Having enjoyed Netflix’s other Harlan Coben TV adaptations, I was excited to learn that the streaming titan would be turning two more Coben novels into series and now his next mystery hit has finally arrived in the form of Missing You. He follows Detective Kat Donovan (Rosalind Eleazar), whose life is turned upside down when she finds her fiancé Josh (Ashley Walters) on a dating app after he disappeared 11 years ago. This unexpected reappearance leads Kat to reopen the unsolved mystery surrounding her father’s murder and see if there is a connection between her fiancé’s disappearance and her father’s death.
During my interview with I miss you Creator Victoria Asare-Archer told me it’s the most emotional Harlan Coben adaptation yet, but we can also expect the signature twists and turns of a Coben series we all love the most. Coben’s mystery thrillers have been the cornerstone of several of Netflix’s best shows, so we’ll have to wait and see if Missing You also appears on the list. – G.W.
Lockerbie (peacock/sky)
A new five-episode limited series based on the real-life 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over the Scottish town of Lockerbie is now available on Peacock in the US, Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK.
Lockerbie: a search for the truth tells the story of one of the world’s worst terrorist attacks through the perspective of a grieving father, Dr. Jim Swire (Colin Firth) and his mother Jane (Catherine McCormack), as they and their family mount a three-way campaign decades for truth and justice. Part political thriller and part grief drama, this is a heartbreaking story filled with tragedy and tension. – AS
The Failed Boy (main video)
Look
Having lost it in theaters last May, The scapegoat It’s one of three new Prime Video movies that I’m excited to watch in January 2025. Inspired by the 1980s television series of the same name, it tells the story of stuntman Colt Seavers (Ryan Gosling), who accidentally becomes involved in a dangerous criminal conspiracy after the actor performs stunts and is kidnapped.
While I unfortunately didn’t get to experience this crazy popcorn action movie on the big screen, I’m sure The scapegoat It will still be a fun watch and perfect for weekend entertainment at home. It’s already one of Prime Video’s best movies based on its Rotten Tomatoes score, so I can’t wait to enjoy some silly comedy hijinks. – G.W.
