The president praises the role of the MWL in the fight against Islamophobia


President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday met with Dr. Mohammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, Secretary General of the Muslim World League (MWL) and President of the Organization of Muslim Scholars. The President praised the League’s efforts to counter extremism and Islamophobia and highlighted its growing collaboration with Pakistan in education, women’s empowerment and humanitarian aid.

She described the International Conference on Girls’ Education in Muslim Communities, organized by the MWL and held earlier this year in Islamabad, as an important step towards strengthening intellectual and moral foundations in the Muslim world. The President also highlighted the jointly inaugurated Seerat-un-Nabi Museum as a symbol of shared reverence for the life and message of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him).

President Zardari welcomed the proposed cooperation agreement between the MWL and Pakistan’s Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, highlighting the importance of a coordinated approach in health, education and humanitarian work. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for the Palestinian cause and appreciated the peace efforts led by Saudi Arabia and the MWL, including recent initiatives aimed at achieving a lasting ceasefire, Israeli withdrawal and the reconstruction of Gaza.

The President described Pakistan’s relationship with Saudi Arabia as historic and rooted in mutual faith and respect, and expressed optimism about expanding cooperation in defence, trade, investment and energy.

Dr. Al-Issa said Pakistan holds a special place in the hearts of the Saudi people and termed the recent defense cooperation agreement between the two nations as a reflection of deep trust and strategic partnership. He also paid tribute to late Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and praised President Zardari’s political career.

The meeting was attended by several officials including Senator Sherry Rehman and Maulana Tahir Ashrafi. The engagement reaffirmed Pakistan’s intention to deepen cooperation with global Islamic welfare bodies such as the MWL and promote dialogue, tolerance and humanitarian collaboration.
