Live music is about more than seeing your favorite artists in person – the venue is an important part of the experience, and Spotify highlights this with its revamped in-app live events feed.
The feature’s layout has been improved and you can now follow your favorite venues and discover new live music venues you may have missed before, which will be saved to your library for easy access. The new feed has already started rolling out to users and can be used by both free and premium subscribers.
Leveraging their involvement in live music, Spotify’s new venue listings are designed to help promote venues large or small, and ensure they are packed to the brim with enthusiastic concert-goers. Spotify Senior Director of Live Music René Volker goes into detail:
“ive music thrives when the right fans find the right ticket at the right time. By allowing listeners to follow venues directly in the app and by updating the live event stream daily to highlight highly relevant concert recommendations, we’re turning streaming intent into real-world attendance. This helps keep venues filled to capacity and helps fans fill their calendars with concerts they’ll love.”
Updated daily, Spotify’s new live events feed shows you concerts happening in your area “from this weekend’s intimate concerts to newly announced global tours,” according to Spotify’s blog post. Not only will Spotify keep you informed about local music concerts, it will also show you relevant concerts based on the music you’re streaming and your favorite genres, so it’s completely tailored to your unique tastes.
According to Spotify’s announcement, there are over 20,000 places listed around the world that you can follow and add to your library. If you see a concert in the section of the venue you like, you can click to the event’s ticket site.
Spotify has long featured live music events, starting with its Concerts Hub in 2020, which the company later shifted to what we now know as the Live Events section. Earlier this year, Spotify launched its Concerts Near You playlist, a one-stop shop for streaming music from artists touring in your area, which also takes you to third-party booking sites to secure tickets.
My own feed is full of large capacity venues in my area, as well as smaller venues that are equally popular with live music fans. Currently, smaller independent venues don’t yet have their own tabs in the new section, which somewhat defeats the purpose of the update, but there’s room for expansion here.
