Kech DC survives IED attack

Kech Deputy Commissioner Basheer Ahmed Bareech narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on Monday when an explosive device carried on a motorcycle detonated near his convoy in Turbat, injuring ten people, including nine Levies staff.

Separately, an attack on a police station in Bhag Nari area of ​​Kachhi district left the station house officer (SHO) martyred and two policemen injured, officials confirmed on Monday.

The explosion in Turbat occurred near the tehsildar’s office when the deputy commissioner was returning to his office.

The motorcycle loaded with explosives was detonated remotely and hit near his vehicle. The powerful explosion caused panic among residents and passersby in the area.

DC Basheer Ahmed Bareech was unhurt while the injured were rushed to Turbat Civil Hospital for medical treatment.

Hospital authorities later confirmed that most of the victims were Levies staff and that their condition was stable.

Following the explosion, law enforcement agencies (LEA) cordoned off the area and launched a large-scale search operation to locate those responsible. Security throughout the city of Turbat was further tightened to prevent possible subsequent attacks.

Meanwhile, unidentified gunmen attacked Bhag police station with hand grenades and firing in Bhag Nari area of ​​Kachhi district.

According to security sources, SHO Bhag Nari Inspector Lutf Ali Khosa, a native of Sohbatpur district, lost his life during the exchange of fire.

Police officials said security personnel on duty retaliated effectively, resulting in the death of one of the attackers.

The other suspects managed to escape after the brief but intense shootout. The injured police officers were taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors described their condition as stable.

Following the attack, the police and other LEAs cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to locate the culprits behind the assault. Authorities said an investigation had been launched to determine the motive and identity of those involved.

The incidents add to a series of recent attacks against LEAs in Balochistan, raising concerns over the security situation in the province.
