Beware, nerds, because the official trailer for stranger things Season 5 has been leaked online by none other than Netflix.
With the final season of the immensely popular show premiering on November 26, Netflix was set to reveal one last look at stranger things 5 today (October 30) before launch day. In fact, the streaming titan confirmed it yesterday on social media, so fans have been preparing accordingly for its arrival.
Unfortunately, a Netflix employee doesn’t seem to have gotten the memo about when the final trailer should be released, because the long-awaited two-minute trailer was accidentally shared online hours before its global premiere.
Surprising no one, the footage was quickly taken offline by the best streaming service in the world. However, some eagle-eyed fans were quick to notice that it had been released ahead of schedule and took screenshots and clips of said trailer. Some people were even able to download the trailer in its entirety. Unsurprisingly, social media is now flooded with people posting screenshots and trailer footage for the upcoming fifth season of Stranger thing.
I will not share any content based on images or videos of the trailer here. I would also recommend anyone who wants to see the trailer in all its HD/4K glory to stay away from X/Twitter, Instagram, Reddit and other forums and wait until the latest round of Season 5 images are officially released.
That being said, there is a very specific moment in the latest trailer for one of Netflix’s best shows that is dominating fan discussions in the wake of the trailer leak. I’ll briefly touch on this topic after the image below, so keep in mind: Major spoilers follow for stranger things official trailer for season 5.
The scene in question is the last one we see in the trailer and causes an impressive meeting between Will Byers and stranger things‘Big Bad in Vecna. As the latter holds a terrified Will aloft using his telekinetic powers, Vecna tells Will that he will help Vecna ”one last time” before the screen fades ominously to black.
Immediately, a large portion of the show’s fanbase has jumped on the ‘Will’s going to die’ bandwagon, but I don’t think this is the case. Of course, it’s unclear which episode this scene was taken from, but the prevailing theory among viewers is that all of the footage in this trailer is taken from the first volume of season 5, which comprises its first four episodes.
If true, I wouldn’t be surprised if Season 5, Part 1 ends on a cliffhanger, with this scene being the last one we see before the end credits sequence of Volume 1. At the very least, that would mean Will makes it to Volume 2 but, given his importance to the larger story, I’d be surprised if Vecna kills him off in Part 1 or at the beginning of the follow-up volume.
It won’t be long until we see if I’m right or wrong. stranger things Season 5 Volume 1 will be released on November 26, so the countdown has begun for the return of the hit series.
