Get ready for some potentially bad news, DC fans, because Lanterns It may not debut on HBO Max in early 2026.
According to a new rumor, the DC Universe’s (DCU) next Green Lantern TV show will arrive later supergirl flies to the cinemas. Since the latter will be released globally on June 26, 2026, it is possible that Lanterns It won’t *ahem* see the light of day until July 2026 at the earliest.
To explain why this might be the case, we have to go back to early October. In one of its most recent Heat Vision newsletters, The Hollywood Reporter (THR) hinted that the film formerly known as Supergirl: the woman of tomorrow will be the next DCU project to make its bow.
That wouldn’t be a problem if DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran hadn’t already indicated that Lanterns would be released early next year. In fact, speaking to reporters in February (as reported by Variety), the couple said they expected it to drop sometime in the first three months of 2026.
Understandably, THR’s report has raised eyebrows among Green Lantern fans. If the trade publication had simply forgotten about LanternsOr was something more sinister afoot?
One step forward is the Green Lantern Podcast (GLP), a YouTube fan channel that decided to investigate. Seeking clarity on what THR had heard, GLP exchanged emails with the outlet, and on its October 28, 2025 episode, GLP revealed what those email correspondences said. Bottom line: THR confirmed it had heard that Lanterns would be released later supergirl.
It seems, then, that there will be a long wait for the next DCU Chapter One project to debut. In fact, with Pacifier Season 2 ends in mid-October and there are no other DC Studios movies or TV shows coming off the production line before then. supergirlIt will be another eight months before the Warner Bros. comic universe has anything new to offer us.
For what it’s worth, I reached out to HBO Max for clarification on Lanterns‘ launch window. At the time of publication, I have not received a response, but I will update this article if one is sent to me.
Meanwhile, we’ve slowly learned more about the DCU’s Green Lantern TV series. Recently, one of its showrunners spoke about the “tug of war” that will exist between its two protagonists. The individuals in question? The iconic Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and John Stewart, who will be played by Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre respectively.
