Police convoy ambushed in Hangu

Police sources said the exchange of fire between the attackers and security forces continued until the report was submitted.

DI KHAN/PESHAWAR:

A police convoy was attacked on Sunday in Hangu district, leaving three policemen injured, including the Station House Officer (SHO).

Separately, explosions allegedly caused by a short circuit at a police station in Peshawar led to the death of a police officer.

Official sources said that a convoy, carrying SP Investigation Abdul Samad, DSP Tall Mujahid and SHO Imran Uddin, was returning from Karbogha after attending a meeting with a peace committee when it was ambushed with an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on the Doaba-Karbogha road in Hangu.

According to SP Abdul Samad, the blast caused injuries to SHO Imran Uddin, Constable Abid and Constable Jihad. The injured were immediately taken to Doaba hospital for treatment amidst gunfire by terrorists. Police sources said that until the report was presented, there was an exchange of fire between the attackers and the security forces.

Meanwhile, a fire broke out following explosions at a Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) police station in Peshawar, leading to the martyrdom of a police officer. Two other police officers also suffered injuries. The incident occurred at the CTD office near the Christian cemetery on University Road.

Speaking to the media, CCPO Peshawar’s Dr Mian Saeed said that the fire was caused by a short circuit.

According to the official, explosive materials were stored in the station courtyard that caught fire and caused multiple explosions, destroying part of the building. “CTD constable Bilal Durani was martyred while two others were injured in the blasts,” he said.

Rescue teams and police quickly reached the spot and began relief operations. The explosions, however, caused serious damage to the building. Rescuers later managed to extinguish the fire, but most of the station’s records and equipment were destroyed.

The CCPO said those detained at the police station had been shifted to another police station and an investigation had been launched from multiple angles. “KP IGP Zulfiqar Hameed has ordered a formal investigation and directed officials to submit a report within five days,” he added.

Later, the funeral prayer of martyred CTD officer Bilal Khan was held at Malik Saad Shaheed police lines with full state honours.

The ceremony was attended by KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, IGP Zulfiqar Hameed, CTD Additional IG Jawad Qamar, CCPO Dr Mian Saeed Ahmed, Pakistan Army officers, police personnel and family members of the martyr.

An elegantly dressed police contingent presented a guard of honor, while the governor, police and army officers laid wreaths on the coffin. They offered prayers for the exalted rank of the martyr and fortitude for his bereaved family.
