The co-founder of Rockstar Games, Dan Houser, has spoken about the grand theft car series in a new interview.
In addition to co-founding Rockstar with his brother, Houser worked as a writer for Grand Theft Auto 2, Grand Theft Auto 3, Grand Theft Auto 4 and grand theft car 5, in addition to both Red Dead Redemption games.
Speaking with podcaster Lex Fridman, Houser explained why GTA The games have not returned to a setting like London, which previously appeared in 1997. grand theft car expansion pack London 1969.
“We did a little thing in London 26 years ago,” he said. “That was really nice and fun, since the first quest pack for [the first] PlayStation.”
However, when it came to the main games, Houser explained that “we always decided that there was a lot of Americanness inherent in the game. [franchise]It would be very difficult to make it work in London or anywhere else.”
“You needed weapons, you needed these larger than life characters,” he added. “I felt like the game revolved a lot around America, possibly from an outside perspective. […] “It actually wouldn’t have worked the same way elsewhere.”
Houser resigned from Rockstar in 2020 and founded a new studio called Absurd Ventures.
It is currently unclear who will write the next GTA game, grand theft car 6which will be released in May next year for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S.
